Hello,
the display in my HP Envy 15 k203nl, which is an AOU B156HTN03.3 (40-pin LVDS, 2 ch, 6 bit, FHD), needs replacement and I'm looking for an upgrade to an IPS panel (FHD).
I found an old thread on Hp Support Forum where the LG LP156WF4-SLBA was suggested to upgrade an AUO B156HTN03.2, which is almost identical to my display. I also had a look at panelook.com and it looks like most displays in the LG LP156WF4-SL family have very similar specs, as well as the AUO B156HAN01.0. However, I do not really know what to look for when checking for compatibility (e.g. do "Signal Interface Model" and/or "Signal Pin Configuration" need to be the same to work out flawlessly?) so I would like to have some feedback from some expert users before buying a possibly incompatible screen.
Thank you very much for your help and I apologize for my newbness.

These are what your main concerns should be. Based on this you have a 40 pin LVDS connection and your screen size is 359.5 x 223.8.
If you scroll down to the bottom you'll see options for replacement. https://www.panelook.com/popularmodels.php?id=23124&order=brightness&by=desc&pagesize=50
If you want something more specific then you'll want to search and sort by size to find what you're looking for.
B156HAN01.0 - this specs out 1080P / LVDS https://www.panelook.com/modelcompare.php?ids=23124,19047 (compares them side by side)
One thing that stands out is the IPS model is going to be glossy in appearance which will pick up more reflections / distractions depending on lighting.
The IPS model will have better contrast by 2X
The IPS model will have better viewing angles by nearly 2X
The IPS model will use slightly less power
If you find something else through deeper digging the only other thing to watch for is the pin pitch which is 0.5mm for your current model. Sometimes AUO will use a 0.4mm pitch which will require a different cable or an adapter.manciukic likes this. -
Thanks for your reply.
Comparing the B156HTN03.3 and the B156HAN01.0 side by side, the only difference is the "Signal Pin Configuration". Is it a problem or do you think it should work on my laptop?
Having a deeper look at the datasheets for the two displays, the pinouts differ in two positions:
- PIN 5: BIST (Panel Self Test) vs Not Connected
- PIN 19: Not Connected vs Ground
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I just want to be sure. -
When I was doing my replacement I never dug into it that deeply and I was going from a TN to IPS but also from FHD to UHD and it worked fine. I also had to do a cable replacement from a 30 pin to 40 pin.
Just buy it from a place with a generous return policy in case it doesn't work. From the aspect of compatibility though it shouldn't be a problem.manciukic likes this. -
Thank you again for your help. In the end, I decided to just buy a TN replacement which I was sure was compatible.
