I bought a generic 12 cell battery thats supposed to be compatible with my laptop. its a HP G60-249WM. it powers on with battery while seated, however, if the laptop is moved, up in the air, and it is seated back down. the laptop will shut off when it touches the table. i believe this battery didn't always have this problem, but it definitely has this problem now. i'm not sure what to do, i'd like to be able to keep the battery and use it, but for some reason, it just turns itself off when i move it anywhere. i think the official battery for it that doesn't turn itself off, might be a tighter fit.

can anyone give me any ideas/suggestions ?

Its losing contact, try to find what direction the battery wiggles in, and fill in the space with something...I had to do something similar with a cell-phone...took some glue from a hot glue gun and added a small lyer of it to fill space (NOT WITH THE BATTERY INSIDE), let it dry and put the battery in...no more wiggling!

is there any way to fix it from losing contact other than jamming glue in it ? is it a certain mechanism of the laptop can be fixed so it won't lose contact, something more permanantly.

    thank you

return the battery and get a replacement... the battery must be faulty...don't put jamming glue etc... not worth runing ur laptop... just RMA the battery...

    My thoughts on 'generic' batteries:

If they place such low QC standards to the physical dimensions of the pack, enough that it doesn't fit correctly; how haphazard are the internal wiring and safety circuits (if they are even present) produced and/or tested?

My notebook's value goes much over the hard dollar cost of the unit itself - my time to setup and make a usable system for my workflow is not worth jeopardizing with trying to save a few $$ on 'generic' batteries. YMMV.

I too would recommend returning this battery, but I suggest purchasing a 'genuine' one from your notebook manufacturer's approved list.

    Good luck and Happy Holidays!
