    Hi,
I have a laptop HP G61 410 SA with an Intel G40 chipset and would like to upgrade the processor.

My processor is T3100 ann I would like to know if I can replace the T3100 by a P8700?

The FSB is 800 Mhz for the chipset G40 and 1066 Mhz for the processor P8700.

I couldn't find any relevant information about this upgrade despite my research.

    thank you for your help

Intel G40 chipset? Here is a list of Intel chipsets. The closest to what you listed are G41, G43, and G45 chipsets.

Short Answer no that will not work or boot. They are two different CPU for different fsb. If I remember correctly these would most likely be the choice your looking at.

But I can't say for sure...but the T3100 seems to fit in the category Commander Wolf has put together.

    Thank you for the answer.
Finally, I replaced the T3100 by a T9300 and it works perfectly.
