The G62-144DX came with an i3-330m. I wanted to upgrade the processor but could not find any information on this. The System took the 8gb of Ram.

The possibilities are stated in the hp owners manual with a socket G1

    i3-330m Dual Core 3M Cache, 2.13 GHz
    i5-540m Duel Core 3M Cache, 2.53 GHz
    i7-620m Duel Core 4M Cache, 2.66 GHz

The i5 is about 20 bucks on ebay vs the 50+ dollars for the i7 which i'm waiting till next year to have the price drop.

The laptop was constantly running slow and hot. Upgraded the RAM to 8gb and put a new install of win 7 home 64 bit. For some reason the recovery off of the hard drive wouldn't allow me to run HWMonitor.

*Look at the attached pics.* While disassembling the laptop, I got to the fan and saw it was clean from the outside, I could not tell it was clogged with hair and dust and debris. Removed the four screws and bam, giant clog of hair, dust and debris. I'm glad I took the time to remove it, wash it out and blow dry it clean. This hasn't been disassembled and cleaned since it was bought like over 5-6 years ago.

Installed the i5-540m with artic-5 and put it all back together. booted it up to windows and it worked. no bluescreen or anything and I didn't have to update the bios.

Once a year, take your laptop to dissemble/clean/oil the fan. learned how to oil the fan on youtube.

    Always use a notebook cooler.

If you read this site or post to it this is advice everyone is told to do already and should know about when owning a laptop.

Unproven and not based on facts it hasn't proven to work other then cost money and waste carrying around extra power cable to keep it powered. Makes good money for cooling pad companies.

Good work. The cooling systems on laptops are generally not quite the best. If your system can do it, I find that undervolting helps tremendously as well.

I'm just posting this in case someone who owns one of these knows they can upgrade it as well as no one has done it or has posted the information. I've had several laptops but I've NEVER EVER cleaned or dissembled them. General knowledge isn't so general if you're not looking or care enough to do it. Your response is like this to me, I go into a doctors office and he tells me if I don't exercise and lose weight based on the BMI, i'm at risk for a hearth attack. I tell the doc, All the delicious food is all fattening. Have you seen the food channel? Everything they make is overly buttered and delicious. The doc looks at me and says well that's up to you. Well no ish doc, I rather live and enjoy my life than think about that.

I spent my money on it and I been using for the past 5 years. you remind me of my ex, the proof is in the pudding as she would say. I feel like if the test weren't run in controlled setting and they had to spend a million dollars to test their 20 dollar laptop cooler, you wouldn't believe it and/or nit-pick how they ran the test. Its 20 bucks. get over it. I should start a cooling pad company. :)

Put more time and effort into enjoying your life and appreciating what you got than tell someone if you read this and that. save it for your wife or kids. I'm pretty sure they want to hear it.

Peg bundy: What do we say to your dad kids?

Bud and Kelly: Both sarcastically: Thanks dad!
