    Hello,

I hope this right place to ask..sorry if I post in wrong area.
Just get a gift from my brother with specs below.

    Code:
    [B]HP HDX18t Premium Series[/B]
    - Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme Mobile Processor QX9300 (2.53Ghz, 12MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    - [COLOR="Red"][B]4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)[/B][/COLOR]
    - 500GB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (250GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    - 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M
    - 18.4" 1080p
    - Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
    - Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Fluid)
    - Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
    - Backlit Keyboard
    - 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I want to upgrade my HDX RAM to 8GB RAM, I buy corsair 2x4GB type CM3X4GSD1066 PC8500 DDR3.

    Problem:
After replacing default RAM with the new one, I can not enter to windows screen, after reboot I always returned to blue screen and then system restart automatically.

    The solution that I've tried:
I search in microsoft official site about blue screen and apply some fix, but error still there.

When I use only one slot or with max 4GB problem does not exist.

    Combination that I try.

    Corsair piece 1
    1x4GB in slot 1 = work
    1x4GB in slot 2 = work

    Corsair piece 2
    1x4GB in slot 1 = work
    1x4GB in slot 2 = work

    1x2GB in slot 1 = work
    1x2GB in slot 2 = work

    2x2GB in slot 1&2 = work

    2x4GB in slot 1&2 = Error

    So my question is:

    1. Is Corsair RAM above compatible with my laptop?
    2. If the RAM is compatible, why when using 8GB, my laptop does not work?

Thanks in advance for your help guys.

Try power cycling the notebook by removing the battery and power cord, then hold power button for 30 seconds. Go ahead and put 8gb in then plug it back in and check if 8gb is being recognized by BIOS. You might also try updating BIOS if not already on the latest one.

Try booting into some other OS to make sure it's a hardware problem. E.g ubuntu live session.

Have you tried putting the Windows installation cd in and selecting "repair my computer", then "startup repair"? Might need to try a clean install.

Sounds strange that BIOS recognizes the RAM but Windows would BSOD at boot.

this is really strange as the HDX18 should work easily with 8GB...

    Update Case:

After trying many times, I finally found a way to get into the windows (but another problem arises).

Here is how I can eliminate the problem of booting. I turn off all power for approximately 12 hours, after that I put 8GB of RAM and I turn on my laptop, yes I can get into windows without a problem, but after several minutes of use, BSOD suddenly appeared, and I'm having trouble to boot again .

Next, I turn off all power and I found the RAM is very hot, then I try to cool off and wait for five hours, and repeat the steps above and the problem of BSOD appears again after several minutes of usage with RAM very hot.

Anyone know why this 8GB (2x4GB) RAM heat faster? Why when I use 4GB (2x2GB) of RAM and my laptop ON almost 24 hours this will not happen?

I see no reason why the manufacturer would matter as long as the numbers on your RAM match. My machine is less advanced than yours but I had no trouble upgrading when I decided to go to 8 GB. It was as easy as easy as screwing in a light bulb. After that, everything was automatic.

I'm curious though, is all 8GB of RAM the same--identical matched pairs?

I'm also confused with this problem. Yes I am sure they both are identical matched pairs .

Assuming comparability, a mixed match pair shouldn't stop your machine from working, but it would reduce it's efficiency--RAM works best when everything is at the same level and type.

On the other hand, I'm still not completely sure if mixing manufacturers would cause any bottle necks. However, since none of these are your problem, I'm at a loss.
