So I've just ordered an HP HDX9494nr for it's lovely 20.1" screen and decent stats, but I was wondering, can I upgrade the ram to 1066MHz? Also, can I upgrade the GPU? And would it be more advisable to upgrade the CPU to one with a 1066MHz FSB, or to overclock the stock cpu? I know that's a lot of questions, but I'd really like to know! Thank you ahead of time!

No to all, enjoy your beauty!

You can upgrade the CPU, just not to the P (monteniva) variety.

Hmm, not being able to upgrade the GPU isn't too worrisome, but I can't help but wonder if the 800MHz FSB will hold me back... I'm not hardcore top-of-the-line gamer, but I do enjoy them.

I'm having no problems playing games, believe that!

You should post your question in the HDX Lounge, you will get more precise answers to your questions regarding that unit.

Wonderful, thank you. And I'm glad to hear that it most likely won't be causing me any issues. I'm coming from an Acer Aspire 5920, so it'd be nice to actually play TF2 and such AND have it look nice!

    YW!

Believe it or not, just a month ago I was dead set on getting the HDX. The only reason I didn’t, was the fact the M570RU was a better fit for me. The HDX is a fine unit, and you will get a nice remote to boot besides the gorgeous 20” display. At its price point, it’s hard to beat it!

I bought My Dragon HDX9494nr at frys and i have never beem more satisfied of a computer as i am with it. Later on in its life though i would probably want to upgrade (maybe even now!?!) from the stock t8100 to a t9500 as i see this ist top of the line without going extreme, also i guess it can handle 8 gigs of ram as well so are any 4gb sticks available yet? (2x 4GB) and the 320 is ok, i do alot of dling and production so im wonderignwhat the biggest hard drives i can put in this bad boy.

Also, be aware you can not overclock any cpu in the HDX, everything is locked. Also, no upgrades to the GPU are possible.

And finally, upgrading the cpu involves taking the whole thing apart. HDX thread states about a 4 hour job. Thinking about doing so in the near future, if I do, Ill take some pictures and make a step by step for ya.

I also gather that any faster memory will run at the stock memory speed, so no reason to upgrade other than for increased capacity.

Another thing you should know: though it has two bays for hard drives, raid is not an option.

Enjoy your new machine...its the bomb. My old 17 inch hasnt even been looked at since i got this thing.

raid is automatic, hp proprietary rubbish, upgrading is as simple as putting two 2.5in 500gb and using a the bootable restore dvd to rewrite everything including the partitioned sections the way it came.
    New specs after upgrade
    hdx9494nr
Vista Ultimate 64 from premium 64
    t9600 2.8ghx fron t8100 2.1ghz
    8gb Gskill 2x4gb 667 from stock 4gb 2x2gb 533
1TB 2x500gb samsung spinpoint or WD 2.5 HD from stock 320gb 2x160 hd
total right now sounds like 1380 after upgrade. but it should last way into next generations of games and pcs especially since you cant customize the dragon on hp site anymore. (frys will do the upgrades relatively inexpensive...considering its already 1400 for parts)

You CANNOT upgrade the video card unless HP releases one. It's a form of MXM that's not compatible with other MXM cards, and also the BIOS loads from the motherboard and not the video card.
