    Hi there

am using a HP6220, and it has b/g wireless (i am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong) the wireless isnt great, and i fancy something better, and with more range, although i have heard that these laptops only work with certain cards for whatever reason, can someone adivise?

will putting a "n" card in there give me more range and reliability?

can someone recommend a cheap upgrade?

many thanks for such a n00b question

    :)

AFAIK, HP only allows BIOS to allow certain WiFi cards. So, if your BIOS doesnt support the N card you put in, it actually wont even boot with it in there. :/

If you recall an N wireless card available as an option in your laptop, get whatever card that is. And it should work. Otherwise, you cannot be sure of it working or not. You could try a call to HP and ask which cards are supported. ;)

I took a quick look. On one of HP's wireless driver pages, the NC6220 is listed under. In which the drivers are for the Intel PRO/Wireless 4965, 3945, 2915, and 2200. So, that could mean that all those are compatible. But i'd call up HP is you are unsure. :)
