Hey, so I just purchased a 9700t with following specs

HP Pavilion dv9700t customizable Notebook PC
Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    17.0" WXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1440 x 900)
    2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
FREE Upgrade to HP Imprint Finish (Radiance) + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone!!
FREE Upgrade to Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network Connection and BluetoothTM!!
    250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    No TV Tuner w/remote control
High Capacity 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

As you can see I got the 2 GB RAM

My question is will the laptop have 2 slots with 1GB each? And more importantly, what kind or type of RAM does this computer require and whats the best deal for one? I am interested in buying only 1GB more. Thanks.

Yes, 2 slots with one gig each and the memory modules are located on the bottom of the laptop. Very easy to switch out. As for deals, I'm on the hunt myself but watch the RAM deals thread in this forum (first couple of pages and the last few pages for regular updates).

Here are some threads about the types of RAM it takes and links to some prices:

Thanks for the reply. So I am interested in the best price - does this seem ok?

And is there a difference between PC2 5400 and 5300?

Since the laptop comes with 2GB - two 1 GB sticks, I only want to upgrade to 3 since I will have Home premium and it wouldnt be worth it. Unless of course I find a really good deal on 4GB - would that be worht getting? And is it possible to sell the extra RAM?

Well, it's not the Home premium that is the issue. The issue lies with the fact that a 32-bit OS will only recognize up till 3.5 GB of RAM.

PC2 5400 and 5300 are basically the same. It's a matter of rounding.

That should be OK. Keep an eye out for RAM deals.

addad - Even if you just get a 2GB stick, you will notice a big difference between 2GB and 3GB on Vista. I sure did anyway.

Hey would you guys recommend buying 2 x 2GB sticks for make the total 4GB? Even if the OS only recognizes 3.5 - thats better than 3 right? And I wonder if the price difference will be too big between a good deal on 2 x 2GB and a single 2GB stick?

Also - can you tell me what would be considered a good deal on 2 x2GB and 1x 2GB right now? Just so I an know when to bite on a deal. Thanks.
