I'd drop UltraDrives.com a note. They specialize in laptop drives and may know what will fit. I think there was a post in the HP forum from someone who upgraded the zv6000. You might want to search for it.

I doubt it would be possible to change the front plate. The front button to open the drive might be ina different place and you"ll need to remove the front plate off of the new drive and if you manage to get that off then you"ll need to get the plate off of the OEM drive and glue on to the new one. I think it would be messy and if it does not work then you"ll have 2 broken drives.

The only possibility I can see is if you replace the old drive with a new one which is manufactured by the same company and shares the same front plate design.

I think the bezels are hooked on, but it is a question of whether the new drives bezel attachments line up with the old and and as noted the eject button hole. The post I was refering to, I think the left the bezel on so obviously it was not a perfect fit but did work.

Sometimes the benzels are removable. They are held on by three little clips. I took mine off my Toshiba drive the notebook came with, slapped it on the Sony DVD burner drive I wanted to upgrade to, and it worked just fine.

I am not sure if the drives in the zv6000 are capalbe of doing this though. They may be stuck on there.

I guess so. Alright... Thnx guys. I fiddled around with this drive, i couldn't get the bezel off, but its all good. I think i'll just remove the DVD-R OEM on my laptop and just put the new one on. I think it'll still look alright.

I did that with my zv5000z - took out the HP drive and upgraded to an OEM drive. Looked fine to me, although it didn't fit flush with the notebook.
