the vista 32 bit wont support anything above 3.2gb ram. so if u want to upgrade to 4gb, u wud have to go for vista 64 bit

It should work with 4GB installed. If it doesn't, you can blame HP.

You should be able to use between 3.2GB and 3.5GB of RAM.

The original literature states 2GB, however look at the description of an older BIOS update for your machine http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&dlc=en&os=2093&product=3439703&lang=en

It's confirmed. Your system is the GM965 Santa Rosa chipset, it will support upto 4GB ram. You will need Vista x64 to utilize all 4GBs as stated above.

Actually, not anymore, it can go 8 GB now on some machines since the 4 GB stick is available. But of course, only when the BIOS allows.

Yeah Stewie, I am aware of that.. :p
Seen 8GB in the 8510w and the 8710w.

But 965 Family Datasheet 316273.PDF, still states 4GB DDR2-667 max for the 965PM.

I guess intel are not aware of it right now.. :D
Or maybe they are waiting for 4GB sticks to become more common in the market.

Come on fellas, the 965 family has the letters before the numbers. Let's let Intel know we care about their naming conventions and say correctly?
(obviously too much time on my hands (on the bus)). :)

Whats the point of having 8GB in your notebook..?? It would be hard for you to even use up the whole 4GB, and 8GB at this point costs a fortune.

Check out the BIOS updates and find out what fixes they include, also check out the official specs for that notebook on HP's site. Or just call up HP and clarify.

    Yeah it's really expensive now, 2 x 4 GB sticks = 1 new laptop :D

I guess you can use that much RAM for some heavy 3D modeling, but then your other components such as the GPU will become the bottleneck. :D

I just did a quick search and found some people with the DV9543CL and 4 GB memory, I guess you're safe to buy them. But like others have stated already, for Windows you will need a 64-bit version to use all the memory.

Here are the results I found:

This person is selling his DV9543CL with 4 GB memory:

    http://cgi.ebay.pl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170245315860

Here is another person, look at Jeproks's info:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14871&pid=61014&st=0&#entry61014

Here is another, look for 300zxturbo's review:
