Hi, I just came to this forum and want to upgrade my laptop.
Respectively: from AMD 64 3200+ to a dual core, from a 1280/800 glossy screen to a 1680/1050 matte screen and from ATI Radeon x200 to a superior one.
    Is this possible?
I've been working a lot on this laptop, it's still working well, but I feel I need this upgrade.

    Thank you

Sorry, but the only things you can upgrade on this laptop are the harddrive and the memory. I'm afraid you'll either have to do with this setup, or buy a new notebook.

Many 2.5 inch hard drives are shaped slightly differently from eachother. So make sure it fits in your computer before buying it.

I just checked out a Hitachi 7k100 7200 rpm for $95 from newegg; some reviewers say it's compatible with HP zv 6000.
How about changing the processor to a dual core& video card? Would this be possible? Does it improve in performance?
    Thanks again.

Don't know about the processor, but you can't change the video card.

If your motherboard supports a dual core processor, then you could change it.

Look up the specifications of your chipset. It should list the supported CPUs.

If your socket is 939, then you can put in an Athlon X2 in there.

You have a desktop socket 939 cpu, so in theory you can pop in there any other desktop socket 939 cpu, including the dual core ones. And as long as you get the same type, and keep the thermal power in the same range, you should be find compatibility and heat wise.

Tho you might have a hard time actually getting to the cpu. Depends on how accessible your notebook is. Some notebooks you just pop a cover and get to the cpu. Others you pretty much have to dissasemble the whole thing before reaching the cpu.

As written in a review from 2005 for HP Pavilion zv6000 on this site, the socket is, indeed, a desktop one. However, does it support dual core? On a different thread someone replied that I should look for the BIOS.
As I'm only a tech newbie, would you, please tell me how to find if for example the AMD 4200x2 is supported by my motherboard?
    I appreciate any input.
    Thanks again.

I have tried a x2 3800+ in my zv6000 - it did work but I could only see 1 core. I tried all the motherboard bios and still only 1 core. Until HP makes a new bios that supports 2 cores, you will not be able to fully take advantage of an x2 cpu (s939). I am using a fx-55 in my zv6000. It works great. I have no problems with it.

    Hi, Jason,
I was just about to buy a dual core, but your thread stopped me from doing a probable mistake. The discusion goes further on a similar thread on this forum
    I appreciate your input,
    Simona

    To jazon:
Which model # of CPU did you buy?
I found the AMD single core SanDiego 4000+ @ newegg, but on 2 different model #: ADA4000DKA5CF and ADA4000DAA5BN.
Which one would work for the hp pavilion zv6000?
    Thanks !
ps: after reading posts from other forums, I realized that the dual core upgrade would be impossible.
