Ok... I am reinstalling my laptop for the second time now because of some trojan or so...

I was wondering (no, not if RAM will stop this) if you guys could help me with the upgrade...

I am not really keen on timings, clocks... CAS latency...

I have an HP Pavillion DV6000us with 1GB of RAM composed of 2 sticks of 512mb RAM... maybe 333mhz but probably 533mhz

I am looking at PC5300 and PC5400 one stick of 2gb 677mhz RAM on newegg... even though im not sure...

However I heard that my laptop need PC4200 from some people... and they said it will only accept certain "chips" which I believe is the biggest load of BS ever offered to me

PS: I am looking at this right now

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208323

BUT I see that GEIL has heatspreaders... I dont know if that will fit... my RAM runs a bit hot...
I see G-Skill has some CAS 4 but no reviews...

    HELP!!!!!!! :D

    PC2 5300 and PC2 4200 are backwards compatible.
If you get PC2 5300, and you laptop takes PC2 4200, it will downclock to the right speed.
Just make sure that your laptop takes DDR2 ram and that it takes 4GB if you plan to or if you are looking for 2GB, get 2 sticks of 1GB ram, it will be cheaper probably and you can run it in dual channel

Yea some of us are just getting up, it is Saturday and others may have just gone to bed. Can you link the Geil w/heatspreaders? Use CPU-Z to find out what type of RAM you have or tell us what CPU you have.
