Hi, I have a HP Pavillion DV9000 series, amd turion x2 , and it was chugging along quite happily till a couple of days ago. I left it on and went to a meeting, when i came back, the screen was black and the notebook was in a "locked up" state, console lights were still on. I powered it off and then it wouldn't power back up again. now it goes through this cycle when i power it up:

    1) console lights go on
    2) cd spins a little
    3) fan sometimes gives a 1-2 second blast/whir
    4) notebook just sits there with no signs of life except for the console lights
    5) after about 25 seconds the lights go off and it goes back to step 1

I figure i'm pretty well screwed, its 13 months old so i just missed the warranty. now i figure i better start swapping parts out to try and revive this thing?

I found the videos on the HP site that show me how to swap things out, now i just need a starting point, power supply / motherboard/ ????

    any help would be appreciated!

    thanks!

    Try this first:
    1) Take out all power (pop out battery & remove AC power)

    2) Hold the power button for 30seconds or more

    3) ONLY plug the AC power in and try turning it on

If this fails you might be looking at a motherboard problem..
