Hey, I purchased an old laptop, and wanted to upgrade the hard drive to atleast 160GB, i found this on bestbuy, and was wondering if i could take out the drive from here, and put it in my laptop (60gb), then take the smaller hdd and put in the enclosure.

The reason why i want this is because its 30+ dollars cheaper, and ill be getting an enclosure out of it. Does anyone know if its IDE or SATA, cause no specification website tells what the interface is, and i don't wanna buy it online open (and void the warranty) only to determine its SATA

    thanks

That HP external is a SATA based harddrive

What is the laptop you purchased?
If your older laptop has an IDE based harddrive than you cannot install a SATA drive in its place

If the system uses IDE drives, I suggest looking at the Samsung HM160HC, Western Digital WD2500BEVE or the WD3200BEVE

If your laptop runs the SATA interface you have many more harddrive upgrade options
