I swear I tried to search forums and google, but wasn't able to find proper answer![]()
Was someone able to upgrade this little machine with some decent screen?
I've done my homework and what I know so far, is that they use 13.3" diagonal HD1 antiglare LED-backlit (1366 x 768) panels (touch and non-touch), which has 30 pin eDP 1.2 (1 lane) connector, but exact model of panel isn't listed anywhere, so is eDP cable part number.
I also know, that to be able to use FHD (1920x1080) panel, eDP cable going from motherboard to panel, should be 2 lane eDP.
What I don't know is:
1. If panel uses 1 lane connector, does it automatically mean, that cable is also 1 lane, or it could be 2 lane and we need to just swap out panel?
2. If we need to swap eDP 1.2 (1 lane) cable, with eDP 1.2 (2 lane), is there any standardization? I mean, will it even fit our motherboard?
3. Will any 2 lane eDP 30 pin cable work, or there is something I'm missing?

If there's nobody reporting it'll work, then it's a gamble (for L440 I found reports of stock cable working, E5570 I just took the risk).
As for the rest, I dunno, I just got lucky so I didn't need to research. -
It's definitely a two-lane cable. I connected a random 30-pin eDP FHD panel to the cable, booted into Windows 10, and it displayed in 1920x1080 just fine.
Now it's a matter of finding a panel with the correct mounting holes and connector location. I plan to research this tonight or tomorrow. I already found about 35 panels with the correct mounting holes, so the connector location is the last piece of the puzzle.
The N133HSE-EA1 panel has potential. I need to disassemble the display to take a look at the stock panel's connector location again. I should have answer for everything by the end of next week.Last edited: Sep 30, 2017 -
Update: My research was wrong, unfortunately. The 35 panels I thought had the correct mounting holes were incorrect. I get exactly one hit using only search values for panel size (13.3), Application (Laptop), and Fixation Lock (Face L/R Lock on Bracket) using www.panelook.com. It turns out the single hit is miscategorized: it in fact has incompatible mounting holes. The panel which is absolutely incompatible is: B133HAN02.3. I put this here for all time, in the hopes that no one else has to waste their money purchasing this panel to see if it will mount.
Edit: removed section talking about how the LCD cable may be 1 channel. The post I referenced was for a 450 G3, the 15" version. Therefore, I think there is a strong possibility that all 430 G3 cables are 2 channel.
Now, the challenge is finding a mountable panel. As far as I can tell, there are no FHD panels with perfectly compatible mounting holes. On panelook.com, the stock panel mounting is described as "Face mounting holes (6 pcs) on left, right brackets." The corresponding Fixation Lock selector is "Face L/R Lock on Bracket." Therefore, the only other option is to jury-rig a panel with different mounting holes to the existing brackets. Or give up.Last edited: Oct 3, 2017 -

If you want to help find potential panels, this is what needs to be done:
Find a 13.3", 1920x1080, 30-pin eDP, Laptop, IPS panel with the following two additional characteristics:
1. Must have a horizontal length of 314mm or less. 310mm - 312mm would be perfect.
2. The 30-pin eDP connector must on the right-hand side when looking at the back of the panel. It also must be in a location close enough for the existing LCD cable to reach. However, just finding panels with a connector in the correct general location is still a good start.
When you plug in the selectors as described into www.panelook.com, you'll get about 50 candidates. From there, it's a matter of examining each panel to determine whether they have the two additional characteristics as I described. The individual panel specs usually have pictures, which makes determining the eDP connector location a little easier. If there are no pictures, you have to look at the spec sheets to determine its location, and usually, its offset.
I think if a potential candidate has fixation locks (mounting holes) either on the top/bottom, or no locks at all, that would be the easiest to work with. Top/bottom locks may fit as is, or they could be snipped off. No locks at all means no modifications would be necessary. In both cases, the panel could be held in place using painters tape.Last edited: Oct 3, 2017
