    Hello everyone,

So I recently purchased the newly refreshed Dv6t-se Laptop from HP, and I love it!

At the time I didn't want to shell out the cash for an SSD, but my wife for my recent birthday got me a 1.5TB external drive. I now don't need the 500gb internal drive as much and want to upgrade to a smaller, faster SSD.

It's too late for me to get HPs SSD but I was curious how they compared to Intel? They offer 160gb SSD for $270.

Intel's prices for $160gb are closer to $400.

I've always heard Intel drives are the primo SSD to get, but is the price worth it? Example.. on Newegg, Kensington has 128gb SSD for $219.99, Intel has 80gb for the same price.

Are we all just paying for a name?

That price per GB is pretty dang good. The best I could find. Might jump on that and get it.

HP uses the exact same SSD (the Intels).

HP gets the OEM version, and the accompanying discount agreed upon with intel, although there's nothing preventing HP to overcharge for a component if they want to.

Retail version also has the desktop brackets and nicer packaging [although we don't really care about such things ;) ].

For all intents and purposes ALL SSDs are just re-badges of the originals: Those being Intel and Samsung. I have no listing on whose SSD is underneath the HP logo, but the controllers do make a difference.

HP's ship with Intel G2 SSD's so I would assume they are Intel drives.

...and you are sure HP ships Intel drives? Just asking, because Samsung is/was the preferred provider for HP and Dell and others previously.

I'm pretty sure HP uses Intels. But I've read it's the G1. The price $270 seems to point to G1.

    PS. I don't think Samsung has made a 160GB SSD. They're into 32/64/128/256/512.
