Hey. first post here as you can see..
Just wondering if anyone had any solid info on the top CPU upgrade for this notebook. I have just aquired this ZV5220. Currently the specs are:
    Athlon XP-M 3000+ 1.6ghz
    512MB RAM
    100GB Hard Drive
    nVidia 420 GO 32mb

I was looking on newegg and they have an Athlon 64 4000+ 2.6ghz Socket 754. All the specs look the like they should work. I just dont know about the mobo and what the top clock mulitpier would be.

Also second issue. Video card is not really up to some of my games even using tweaked drivers and overclocking. Anybody know if it's possible to drop in a better card on these notebooks?

    Thanks in advance people.

The 4000+ wont work since the BIOS has not been updated(since Apr 05) and so is not capable of supporting the newer revisions.

The best upgrade for your laptop would be a mobile Athlon64 based on the Clawhammer core. The DTR versions wont probably work as the the XP-M's had a lower TDP rating and usually came with a single fan.

Mwave has some of the last mobile Athlon64's and these should work in the zv5000 series...

The graphics card is unfortunately not upgradable sa it is soldered onto the motherboard.

WOW. fast form!. Thanks for the quick reply!
And sorry for posting in the wrong place.

Anyway.... So are you saying that you MUST use the clawhammer core?
If so, i found this one on newegg:

Do you think this one would work? Maybe push this sucka to the max? And yeah i did see that about the bios, already got the newest update to the bios to fix it reading only 800mhz in winodws. Now it reads the correct 1.6Ghz :)

And about the nVidia card: what about the 64mb ( i think i saw some documentation ) version MoBo swap. Maybe a pull from ebay? Just wondering. I got this notebook for close to nothing and it is nice so a couple hundred into is't to bad for me.

Does your laptop have 1 or 2 fans? If I remember correctly in systems which had only 1 fan, the DTR Athlons were usually rejected. Only those which had 2 fans accepted the the DTR's. You could try the DTR's but I doubt that they will work in your system. Search around the R3000/zv5000 forums. There is a ton of info relating to the laptops.

Clawhammers are the only ones known to work in these systems. Since the laptop is now discontinued, ther will be no BIOS updates to support any of the newer revisions and since HP used only CG,C0 rev. Clawhammers, there is no support for other revisions.

Replacing the whole MB might do the trick, but I havent heard anybody try this one. So I really cant say for sure.

Thanks for the info to the new thread. I'll check it out.
Alot of places do not let you return CPU's so I dont want to get stuck with one.
