    The following works sometimes.
HP Zbook G1 with Nvidia M4000M
    Bios Filename 188251.rom from techpower.
Install Nvidia driver 441.66 with mod.

The heat sink from K4100M fits quite well to this M4000M. I would suggest to check the cooling pads, maybe they should be moved a bit aside.

All Direkt X Version works in the passmark test. 20 min Furemark test. the graka temp was max 73 degr.Celsius

Now is the problem. When i start the pc first to the day, the graphic card is installed.
After a reboot of the pc, the gr. card is no longer visible.
If the pc is in the low engenering mode and I wake it up, the gr. card appears again in the device manager ( "Gerätemanager" in the German version) from Windows and the system will reboot to install the driver. But even then the card cannot be used.

So to sum it up - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, you never really can tell.

Has anyone an idea what the problem with the reboot could be?

Can you try disabling Hybrid Graphics in BIOS settings? And then doing a few restarts?

No. After that the display is black. The extern Videoports do not work. I only have positive results with hybrid or active mode. The Bootmode is Hybrid for the OS.

The card is visible when i start the pc new and switch from hybrid to active videomode. I switch off the pc. I wait 5 minutes and start new. In most cases the card is visible. However, this is not good work with the pc.

I think the problem is the vbios.
When the pc is booting the led from the backspace button is fast flashing 2x.

Well... That was my only idea... Seems rather strange, but then again my ZBook loses fan control after a few reboots very rarely (I swear it's after Windows updates -_-). Like, the fan never spins...

Has anyone done a successful upgrade to M4000m? Could just be incompatible with this laptop. I know the vBIOS is stored in the main bios somehow.

Is your system BIOS the newest version?

Edit: so it seems Gtx 980m and other 9xx series work. A quadro should work fine, then? Could be a problem with the card itself?

    Thanks for your answer.
What are you trying to upgrade jotm? Which Zbook have you? The fan control worked fine. The 20min Furmark test with the m4000m was ok. No Problems. I am thinking, the graka is ok.
Otherwise the test would not have worked that long
and there would have been a mistake.

The bios from my zbook is the latest. All drivers for windows as well.

I think the bios from the zbook does not accept the card. I have tried to install a dell videodriver. I hoped that the videobios from dell would run better with the card. At the installation the installmanager proposed only drivers for the graka from the serie Nvidia K_100M. Not for Serie M_000M. But I could not install or use a dell driver. Drivers for HP Zbook G3 also did not work.

The dell videobios was the most compatible with the pc.

Are you sure the Nvidia gtx series 900 works with the ZbookG1?

Hello the upgrade with the Nvidia Quadro M4000m was SUCCESFULL. :)
The reason for problem was a damaged mosfet on the backsite of the card. See picture 1. I have build a new mosfet and the card works very fine. Picture 2
Next step are cleaning the card with circuit board cleaner.

Picture 4: Position of the pads for M4000M. Blue pads are 1,5mm

After the repair the installation was no problem. The nvidia version is 442.50.
    1. Driver mod in the nvidia driver.
    2. Installation without signature verification in windows. The videocard biosoption automatic.
    3. Restart and you are finshed with the upgrade

The biosoption to the bootoption is hyprid (native).
The biosoption from the videocard ist hybrid or automatic. Both is possible.

Thanks for the many hints. :)

That's great work! Thank you for confirming it works. There were other threads saying Maxwell works, so if anyone wants to upgrade, this is good to know.
