    HP dm1 LCD replacement help needed

    My girlfriend broke the display on her notebook, and I am having difficulty replacing it. I've found replacement screens online, but I don't want to buy one until I figure out how to get the bezel open. If I do more damage getting it open then it may be time for a wholesale replacement, so I don't want to spend the money on the LCD yet.

    Here's the problem - I can't find any screws to remove the bezel. All of the generic instructions I've found online assume that there are easy to find bezel screws. I've attached pictures of the bezel so you can see where I'm looking for them. The rubber pieces are not covering any screws I found - they disintegrate when I try to remove them, and I haven't found any screws behind them. They also seem too small to conceal screws.

    I've attached pictures. The one with my thumb shows the only screw I was able to find that might be related to the screen or bezel, but removing it didn't loosen anything I could identify.

    I suspect I simply need to pry open the bezel, but I'm worried that I'll break it if I do.

    If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

    There are several different variants of the dm1/dm1z series. You seem to have the second generation dm1 (dm1-2000->model number should be on the bottom of the notebook). If so, then HP has service manual describing the exact process for your model. Looking at the service manual, it looks like the bezel isnt held by screws but is snapped on at the hinge. Read through the service manuals page 58 - 63 which has all the details you need.

    Go to hp.com and try searching for the service manual of your specific model. The service manual gives step by step instructions how to disassemble and assemble the computer parts. There are many dm1 versions however they are related so a manual for another dm1 model may be enough.

    As an example the manual at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01898746.pdf (page 4-33) indicates that the bezel will pop off if the inner edges are flexed up from the screen.

    I've found with all the new HP's, it is MUCH easier replacing a cracked screen when you remove the entire LCD module (and WLAN antennae) as it is documented in the provided HP service manuals. Best thing to use is a plastic scribe or spuger and carefully prying off the bezel. There are plastic tabs which can be easily broken if you do it too quick.
