    Hi,
My HP dv 5000 just got a new hard drive installed by a tech, everything works except the dvd cd. The green light comes on when you put a disc in. When I go in my computer, it does not show that drive exists.
I would like to fix this problem myself, any help is welcome. thanks

    Hello Chevydog,

I have exactly the same problem:
    Installed new HDD (western digital).
The HDD is working fine, but the DVD drive does not work anymore.
It opens, but neither the Windows hardware manager nor the explorer show the drive.

Did you get this ever fixed?
    Can you help?

    Thanks for any help
    Tom

If it doesn't show up in Device Manager, then you're not going to update the driver through the Device manager.

You should download and install the latest firmware for your drive from the manufacturer's website. Failing that, make sure that the data cable for the drive is firmly plugged in on both ends.
