The fan in my 3.5 yr old Pavilion dv5t starting making strange noises last week. At first, I thought it was the HD, so I made sure I backed everything up and ran some diagnostics, and everything came out "ok." The more I listened to it, though, I thought it was the fan.
I sprayed it with some canned air, but it was still noisy. I took the notebook apart and sprayed the fan from the inside, not wanting to take it completely out of the notebook for fear of breaking something else in the process. (LOL, the keyboard didn't work anymore until I took it apart again and re-seated the cable)
Is it really difficult to replace the fan? Do I need some special adhesive to reattach it? Is it worth messing with it, on a 3.5 yr old machine? Any guesses on how long I can continue to run the pc before the fan completely dies? It primarily stays on the desk, and I keep putting into sleep mode when I'm not using it for awhile, just to keep the fan from running so much. (and shut it down completely overnight)
Thanks.

When you ran diagnostics did you check your temps? If temps are high I would fix it ASAP How to take apart HP Pavilion dv5 laptop >> Inside my laptop

I did not check the temps. Do you have a suggestion for software to do that? It does have integrated graphics, and I don't play games, so I'm hoping the temp isn't running too high...
Thanks again. -

Well, after the pc running for more than an hour, it says the max CPU temps are 40 for one core and 43 for another. (Celsius) Current says 36 and 41, though it keeps fluctuating...
