    Does this look like a serious defect? I am thinking of retuning this laptop.

    No, but if it bothers you it's serious. On the other hand, you should also keep in mind you get what you pay for. If you know that other screens don't have that, I'd return it. otherwise, it may just be a part of that level of display.

    In my field only a flawless pristine display will do, so when it comes to screen only the best is sufficient.

    I had noticed it in the first boot up, so yeah it bothers me. The FHD display is a $150 upgrade, so I wouldn't expect any back light bleeding.

    Only some screens seem to have this issue, so I am going to return this. Thanks for your opinion.
