i have a dv8333cl witha t2400 core duo. Im wondering if it will be possible to upgrade to a faster socket 478 core 2 duo chip. I posted a similar question on the HP forums and someone responded by saying that it was not possible but did not explain. does this laptop have the cpu soldered to the MB?

has anyone else upgraded their dv8000?

it would be great because everything else in this laptop is pretty much top of the line. (2gb ram, 200gb hd space, geforce go 7600 with the 256 mb shared 256 mb dedicated)

yes, it is possible because i was going to buy a dv8000t and then upgrade to a Core 2 Duo. HOWEVER, only the first generation Core 2 Duos (667MHz FSB speed) will work with it i think (not sure about the 800MHz FSB ones used in the Santa Rosa platform)

    cheers

Santa Rosa chips will not work, they are a different socket.

I am 99.9% sure, correct me if I am wrong.

the intel website reports that the t2400 chip uses a Micro-FCPGA package type (which i assume refers to the socket type). when i check out the pdf file for that package type, it is also labeled as an MPGA479M.

i guess the question now becomes:

    should I buy a socket 478 chip
should I buy a socket 479 (i say this because the Micro-FCPGA is also called a MPGA 479M) chip
    or should i buy a Micro-FCPGA chip

I'll put it this way...you can upgrade to one of these (assuming that you want a processor as fast or faster).

    Core Duos
    T2500 - 2.0
    T2600 - 2.16
    T2700 - 2.33 (if this exists)

    Core 2 Duos
    T5600 - 1.83
    T7200 - 2.0
    T7400 - 2.16
    T7600 - 2.33

Any processor newer than that (like Santa Rosa) will not work...you can only use something in the Core Duo or the NON-SANTA-ROSA Core 2 Duos.
