I am thinking of buying the HP dv9000t(17") but i have a few questions.
I am stuck on the screen update. here are my chooses:

    • 17.0" WXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
    • 17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
    • 17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)

I'm not sure which one to pick. I'm mainly going to be using this laptop for gaming and videos.
Will the 1680x1050 res be able to play these games?
    1. counter strike
    2. cs:s
    3. battlefield 2

And my second question is on the video card upgrade I have these options:
    • 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
    • 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
its $125 to upgrade from 256 to 512. will 512 be a great improvement?

    Thanx,
    Samtree

The first question is largely personal preference--I'd suggest looking at a few in person. I'd take the WSXGA+ personally.

#2: Don't spend the $$ on the 512, the go7600 cannot make full use of the extra memory.

That card is more than capable of running those games quite well on that resolution, so if you tend to like higher resolution screens, go for it man.

I would also go for the WSXGA+; on a 17" screen, that is a great resolution and you will have ample screen real estate. WXGA+ is a rather low resolution to have on a 17" screen.

The Go7600 can handle CS:S for sure at 1680x1050, as well as Battlefield 2, although you might have to turn the settings down a bit in the latter.

2GB of RAM is ideal for the latest games so it would be beneficial if you had that.

I have a 9400 that i mgetting at christmas and i got the wxga+ because i had a budget, so i could only get the xga+. I also got it cuz i wanted to run at native res and i dont think the 7900gs can run at 1900 by 1200 with out turning settings down in high end games like oblivion, fear and other new games and also for future games. But i hear that the wxga+ in the dell s have problems and arent that good quility? It is also matte, will this be bad for gaming and does it really have that bad of color and brightness? Also right now im using a desktop 17 inch dell ultrasharp, its a older one and its at 1280 1024. Will this be about the same size as the wxga+ in the 9400? Also I heard that the responce time is horrible so its bad for gaming?
