I purchased an HP dv9823cl a few years ago and it has worked fine, but I am looking to upgrade a few things (well if possible basically everything).

    Current Specs:
    -Processor - AMD Turion(tm) 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
    -RAM - 3.00 GB
    -System - 32 bit Vista
-Motherboard - 432945-001 HP Pavilion dv9000 Series Systemboard
-Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M (UMA)

What I would like to do is upgrade my system to a 64 bit system so I can install 4 GB of RAM. I know what in order to do this I would need to swap out some parts due to the ones I have now are not compatible with 64 bit operating software. I also know that previously you could order the computer with a 64 bit operating system already on it. This is my main priority, and I would like to know exactly what I would need to do in order to do this, such as what components I would need to buy.

Secondly I would much rather prefer a graphics capability higher then a maximum of 128mb of dedicated video memory.

Lastly is that I would like to upgrade to a better processor. Core 2 duo of some sort and would like 2.4 GHz if possible. (pretty sure this would go along with making it 64 - bit)

Also I do not care if the computer loses all of its previous data, I have all the important files saved elsewhere.

    Ending Result:
    -Processor - Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
    -RAM - 4.00 GB
    -System - 64 bit Vista
    -Motherboard - Whatever is needed.
-Graphics - 256mb or preferably 512mb dedicated video memory

Also on a side thought... I know when i bought the computer it was possible to order it with these certain specification, even higher for some portions. Would it be possible to call HP and ask them for the parts necessary to do this?

Thank you to anyone who took their time to read this

I believe your current CPU is already 64-bit capable. All you have to do is install a 64-bit edition of Windows (or other 64-bit operating system).

It is not possible to 'upgrade' your CPU to a Core 2 Duo. This would require a motherboard with a different chipset. Same goes for the graphics processor. The 'graphics card' is integrated into the motherboard and also not upgradable.

Ok thank you. Does anyone know where I can find a 64x bit version of windows? I read that i can use my current windows serial for the 64x bit version and it will work fine.

    haha... you make me laugh...
man i am very sorry for that...
AMD and INTEL do not mix...
    also laptops arent very upgradable..
    just ram and hard drive...
possible optical drive and wifi and bluetooth, but no gpu or cpu upgrade :(
you will have to BUY a 64bit os...
not worth the 100+ dollars.... man 3.0 gb is ok... no improvement in 4 gb watso ever
if anything to really speed things up.. put in a SSD...!
only problem is you will need to reinstall OS... which might be hard for you?
are you sure you are knolgeable enough with computers to take apart you laptop and expect it to work again when you put it back together??
no offense.. i just want to make sure that you dont make any mistakes...
if you have any questions email me @
    [email protected]

    hope i helped!

Thank you everyone for your help. I ended up ordering a 2X2 Kingston RAM set which is currently installed and running great =) and am not up to 4098mb RAM. It was Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400). I also during the shipping process for these cards was downloading and installing a 64-bit OS of windows Vista (I knew that since I have home premium 32-bit that my cd-key would work for a 64-bit home premium version).

My next and last project for this laptop is to upgrade the HDD. I am currently at a 5400 RPM 240gb. I would like to have a 7200 RPM 320gb (even though I will have to install all the drivers and the OS again ( o_O). Anyone got any ideas? I heard that Hitachi has good drives but am having a hard time finding one I like, or even a website that sells many Hitachi HDD.

Also in response to david, yes I do have knowledge with computers and have even built a few. The reason for posting here is for information from people who might have done something like this before, I am fully capable of doing everything myself =) just would like some input from some more experienced people.

Thank you to everyone who helped.

As far as HDD manufacturers, I recommend Western Digital and Seagate.
