    Hello,

My HP laptop plays the sound choppily no matter what program I try. After searching for solutions, I've come up empty-handed. There is no secondary IDE Channel and I've emptied the virtual memory. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

If you are sure that the Disc insn't at fault, check the transfer mode of the devices of the primary IDE channel. Just bring up the properties in device manager and click on the 'Advanced Settings' tab. Each device's transfer mode should be some variation of DMA, if you see PIO then that may be causing the problem. You can switch it back to "DMA if available" and reboot.
