    Hi,
I've got a really cool HP nw8440, but unfortunatelly it fell down one day :(
When I switch on this computer, it runs, however the screen is completely black. I've connect this laptop to external screen, but it still doesn't work. Could you please help me, if you know what could have happened.

I really need some support. Looking forward.

    Cheers,
    rako

maybe the graphics subsystem did suffer under the impact. but i rather think that might be a hard one to solve, unless you are a tech guy and you are bold enough to open your notebook... (not very clever if the notebook is still under warranty)

maybe you do not have to do that yourself. is the notebook still under warranty ? if so and you do not have any serious dents in the case you could try to let HP find the problem and repair it for you. HP would not repair this as a warranty case if they would know that the damage was your fault. so that´s a moral decision...... ;)

    best

Thanks. The warranty is over unfortunately. :( I am a tech guy (actually a programmer). I think I can deassembly this computer, but I am looking for help in order to recognize the actual problem and get some tips.

    Cheers

Maybe the GPU have some problem as long time using. You should reheat the GPU to solve the problem.

Your laptop uses the ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 graphics controller with 256 MB. Maybe the graphics card has moved out of its socket. Use te PDF provided by schoko and open your laptop and inspect that the graphics is sitting correctly in is slot.

    Q:
Did you try the combination of keys; Fn + one of the Function keys to force the display to the external screen?

Thanks a lot for all your answers guys.
I've checked this combination of keys, but it hasn't helped. I am gonna open it and check when I have got a free time.

    Cheers
