Quick question for someone smarter than I. I Have this HP pavillion zv5000 notebook I bought 6 wks ago (1 gig ram, 64 amd processor, but don't know specifics on video card). I bought a dell 20.1 inch lcd to connect to notebook at home. I called HP and my video card supports an external LCD up to around 2000 by 1600, but I only have s-video and VGA connecting capabilities NO DVI. The monitor is 1650 by 1050 and I assume these high pixels, etc. are based off of DVI. Couple questions: Would it be out of the question to upgrade my video card? Is there any type of "adapter" for either the VGA or s-video outputs that would help improve picture or is it all based on video card? Last, would s-video look better than VGA or vice versa? I currently have the 19" HP LCD hooked up to my HP zv5000 via VGA connection and it looks pretty good, I just decided to go w/ the Dell. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

S-video cannot provide you with such hi res.
There are no adapters from vga to dvi, at least i know of none. and if there is i think u might find quality deterioration especially if the adapter isn't well made. If I were you I would look for a screen with vga capabilities.
As for upgrade, even if you could you wont get a dvi port cause an upgrade is just an internal chip change, ports stay the same. I am not too familliar with HP to know if that model can have a GPU (graphics processing unit) exchange, but I would highly doubt it.

I was told on another forum that S-video would give me a slightly better picture than the VGA cable. A salesperson at HP told me the VGA cable would give a better resolution and overall clarity. Anyone know which is the correct advice?
