Hi, I have an HP 8710w but on the inside of the matte screen surface there seems to be marks of some kind. Is it possible to only replace the matte outer layer of the screen or is it fixed to the whole screen and do I have to replace the entire LCD screen?

    regards

Is it still under warranty? I would ask HP to fix it if it is.

Have you tried cleaning the screen?
I recommend going to an automotive store or an optomtrist place and ask if you can buy a microfibre cloth. Simply use the cloth to clean the screen.
You may need to use a little bit of rubbing alcohol on the cloth to get off heavier marks.
Hopefully this cleans up the "marks" you are talking about.

If it does not, you have two options:
    1) send the machine back to hp, for a replacement screen - if its under warranty
    2) Buy a replacement screen from a screen replacement website, such as screentek.
