Ok well to make it short this laptop i got recently and it ran really hot. By hot i mean 100*C for the chipset/gpu and 90*C for the cpu. Well that is honestly just too hot so i decided to replace the thermal paste i read up that it ran about 20*C cooler by replacing the paste. Anyways I took it apart and replaced the thermal paste and dusted the fan assmebly off then put it back together. Well now when i go to boot it up it gives me a black screen all the lights come on as normal. And yes i tried it with an external moniter and no luck there. So any ideas because im not to happy about this.

Did you forget to re-connect the heatsink/fan to the motherboard for power?

You must have missed something. Did you remoe the CPU when you applied the new thermal paste? If you have check that you locked the cPU correctly in place.

Check also that your harddrive, ram, and mini pci (wifi and else) are connected correctly too.

Dry joint somewhere, most likely VGA chip. Take notebook apart always involve risks, even for me. (I have repaired notebook for few years.)

Can be fixed but needs do component level repair.

I did take the cpu out when i removed the old paste. I did take the laptop back apart completly and everthing was as it should be connected and screwed in right and yes the cpu was locked in. The laptop does the same thing if it has ram or dosent have ram in it. I removed all but 1 stick of ram and the same thing happens. Any other ideas?

You simply have something not connected properly, or some parts are not fitting together properly, resulting in maybe something not grounding.

Since you stated you locked the cpu in, that eliminates one thing

Do you have another laptop to test the memory in?
You may want to try that before playing with the system anymore.

I hope you operated on the system with all of the power removed, like ac power and battery. If you did not, you could have shorted or destroyed your system.

Take both memory cards out and the harddrive out.
Try powering it up. If it makes beeping noises, that is a good sign.

If it does not, there is either something disconnected or the motherboard is fried.

Have you tried booting off of just the battery alone?

When you press the start button, does anything happen?

Does the bios image come up

    do any lights come on?

When i boot it up with out any memory and hard the computer is exactly the same with it installed. There are no beeps or anything going on. No the bios does not show up i dont get anything when i try to boot it up on the screen the backlight dosent even come on. Also there isnt much to not connect there was a board for the 2 headphone jacks and the power button board. Other then that its all on the board it self.

    okay

    try this.
Take the memory out, take the ac power cable out, and remove the battery

Than take the system apart and remove the BIOS battery.
Than let the system discharge for a good 30 minutes or so, and try powering up again.
By letting the system discharge, the CMOS will reset and the Bios will go back to teh stock settings.
That should hopefully enable the system to work again.

You better clean up that paste before sending it back. The paste will more than likely void any warranties in the manufacturers mind

That really sucks, something must have gotten zapped when you were working on it.
    Static electricity sucks for computers.

Next time you operate on a computer get one of them wristbands, and than wear rubber shoes, so that you dont conduct electricity to the computer.

First off let me tell, my laptop has ran very very hot since the first day I have had it. I thought it was normal b/c of the size but I was wrong. Just to let everyone know that b/c of how hot it has ran, it has fried my motherboard and now HP told me that since I have had it for 13 months, my warranty ran out at 12 months, so I have to buy a new motherboard with will cost me around $300.. It pisses me off that this happens to other people and they let them get away with this. So I have contacted the BBB and HP to let them know I'm not the only one this has happened to and that they need to make this a recall and fix everyones pc... I paid good money for this to only last me 13 months. So if we want this problem to get fixed, please email me with your email addy and Im going to make a list and send it back to HP......Then hopefully they wont get away with this and fix our problem. Mine started out the screen blank but the fan running and lights on, so I would take out the battery and wait, and it would work for a few minutes, then finally that wouldnt even work anymore, til I called and they tried to charge me $49.99 just to tell me that the motherboard was bad to get a new one.. Its rediculous, if it was Dell,, they would have been more then happy to fix this issue and not charge anything.... Please help me to stop hp from treating their customer like crap and to stand behind their screw ups....Thanks again...

Just buy an extended warrenty with hp you can buy a warrenty on a notebook as long as is no later then 250 days out of warrenty. Also im pretty sure dell would tell you to screw off too if your system was out of warrenty. Dell wont even help you if your system isnt in warrenty with out paying.

I think I'm having the same problem. I have the HP tx1000 series tablet notebook and just a few days ago my screen started to not come back on after i close it. Now when i close it and it goes to sleep or when i turn it off, anytime i open it all the lights come on and the fans the cd drive spins and hard drive spin up but the screen is blank. I have tried alternating between using the power cord and the battey, sometimes it works with only the battery somtimes it only works with the ac adapter and somtimes with both. I'm gussing its a short in the screen join since it swiveles and its the only connection point and bearing the screens load. I paid 1,500$ for the thing its been 15 months now and i paid 100$ for a year of damage protection, kinda funny how the screen, wireless card and fingerprint reader dont break untill after the warrenty is out. I called hp and they said 300$ to look at it, and it could cost more, they are unsure. I'm going to try to fight with them because i dont think this was my fault. iv never taken it apart or done anything rough to it at all. I know this is they're screw up. Any ideas, I'm not paying hp 300$ to fix there mistake.

My laptop needed a new motherboard. You can buy a warrenty on it as long as its not 260 days out of warrenty. I hated that laptop i got it replaced with a dv4 after it failed 5 days when i got it back.
