    this is a mxm question.
I know that hp are not suposed to be mxm compatible...
but so far from mxm store I've noticed theyve only tried it with a nvidia card...
how about replacing a x1600 with a x1800? is there any chance it might work?

just in case... its a nx9420.

    The X1600 has a 128-bit 4-channel memory interface (MXM-II) whereas the X1800 has a 256-bit 8-channel memory interface (MXM-III)....

I am not sure about the figures and specs, but I doubt the upgrade would work....

Try comparing their specs on ati/amd's site..!!

You could check it out the old-fashion way or scan for its service guide on the net -- get the part no., and it might have an image or some info about it..!!
But i have rarely seen mxm-slots in HPs..!!

    I already tried it.
I put the x1800 in the x1600 slot, and it fits perfectly...

the thing is.... nothing happened when I turned the pc on.
all the leds powered on normally,... but the screen stayed black.

MXM is an Nvidia technology; hence why that poster had no idea what he was talking about. He never received any help and he tried installing an Nvidia driver for an ATI card.

MXM is an open technology, there have been ATI MXMs from the beginning....

From where did you get the X1800, and what about its VBIOS..??

I guess if it fits, your laptop may have an MXM-III slot....(but you might have to do something about that VBIOS)
There is one guy in MXM-Upgrade's notebook list, with a Shuttle XPC x100, and claims to have upgraded to the X1800, with MXM-II..
