New here, but desperately trying to find answers to my issue. I recently built an HP zBook 17 G2 from parts, top of the line everything (K5100M, i7-4940MX, 32GB, m.2 SSD, etc.), but I only had the 1920x1080 WVA LCD LED display, not Dreamcolor. I finally located a Dreamcolor display, installed it with the correct (I believe) cabling, and fired up the laptop. Post shows on the display, I can boot into windows once (with the internal intel GPU driving the display), then on reboot the Dreamcolor only shows video during POST, once the Windows login screen appears, I have no video on the internal display, but external works fine. I am sure I'm missing something simple here, seems like the Dreamcolor is not recognized by windows, or by the K5100M GPU. I wonder if HP "activates" the LCD somehow, or has to "marry" it to the GPU/motherboard. Any thoughts/ ideas would be much appreciated as I am sure I cannot contact HP for help with this!

How comes it's not recognized by the K5100m? Switch in the BIOS to the K5100m, DreamColors don't work with Intel GPUs, because they are limited to 8bit, the DreamColor is 10bit.

EDIT: Are you sure that you got an HP K5100m? Most K5100ms are DELL, and they might not work in the ZBook (work fine in the EliteBooks though, HP LOVES to mess-up the BIOS).

I am running the K5100M now, after the first reboot the BIOS no longer allows internal GPU to drive a display. GPU-Z shows my K5100M is running VBIOS 80.04.C9.00.02, device ID 10DE-11B8, subvendor HP (103C).

You have me curious...I may have a Dell VBIOS running in this K5100M! Maybe someone with a Zbook 17 G2 and K5100M can post what VBIOS they are running?

Still not running properly? It's highly unlikely to find an HP K5100m vBIOS, but feel free to try your luck. Usually pro people can't be bothered with such things, they just use their workstations.

I ordered a used K5100M from an HP zBook 17 G2, hopefully the Dreamcolor display will be recognized with the HP vBIOS. I did locate a vBIOS backup in another forum, just a bit concerned about loading it...
