So I just won an auction for the HP zv5000 from ebay for basic school needs. The question is, will it run WoW will everything turned down? I understand that celeron is pretty weak...

    Specs:
    HP Pavilion zv5000
    Celeron 2.8ghz
256MB Ram (Will be upgrading to 1GB)
    Radeon 9000 IGP

    Is it really that bad?

My friend has one of those with a P4 2.6 but I don't know how bad it is since he doesn't game on it. The integrated graphics only support DirectX 8.1 and I believe Half Life 2 runs in DirectX 7 mode, so it is probably bad. It is probably Vista but it crashed. You might be able to "run" it if you have XP though, but it is probably going to be really slow.

I ran WoW on decent settings at 1024x768 on a p-M 1.3 ghz and a dedicated Radeon 9000 64mb GPU. Not sure how an IGP + celeron would be though :\

A 2.8GHz Celeron (Northwood, I assume?) offers similar, if not slightly less, performance to that 1.3GHz P-M (Banias, I assume?). So your configuration should offer similar performance to Ackeron's configuration, meaning you should be able to play WoW on decent settings at 1024 x 768.

EDIT: Are there IGP AND discrete versions of the Radeon 9000 or are we talking about the same GPU?

Yeah it was Banias. And yeah, there are different versions of the Radeon 9000, amazingly enough :p Ye olde!

Alright, I looked it up on the AMD site since I was skeptical that there were discrete and integrated versions of the same GPU under the same Mobility Radeon 9000 moniker.

    http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeon9000/index.html

According to the AMD page, the Mobility Radeon 9000 is a discrete GPU. There is no integrated variant. The only differences between various Radeon 9000 is the amount of dedicated memory.

Subsequently, as long as the zv5000 Mobility Radeon 9000 has at least 64mb of dedicated memory, he should be able to play similar settings.

Also, Banias Pentium M for the win.

I used to own a Radeon 9000 w/ a 3GHz P4. It could run Half-Life 2 at 1280x800 res with most settings at medium, a few at low.
