Howdy!
Okay, decided on the HP 6k, now I'm looking for advice on a few choices here.
1) Vista Premium vs. Basic - only a $35 difference
leaning toward Vista Premium
2) CPU:
a) dual core T2060(1.6GHz/1MB L2) (included in price)
b) Core(TM) Duo T2250 (1.73 GHz/2MB L2Cache) +$50.00
c) Core(TM) 2 Duo T5200(1.60GHz/2MB L2Cache) +$100.00
is there a massive performance difference in these items? Won't be playing much games, I do a bit of graphic/video editing (just for play, not for business), and some sound stuff (messing with MP3s mainly, again just for play, not for business)
leaning toward the T2060, unless the performance boost from the difference cores is truly noteworthy (no pun intended)
3) Graphics - 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400 is an additional $49, but it should allow me to run a 22" widescreen, 1680x1050 (link - http://www.mwave.com/mwave/Skusearch.hmx?scriteria=AA54700 ) a bit better, or am I mistaken? The 22" will obviously be my "office" screen to make up for the small 15.4" screen that comes with the laptop. I do online college and spend far too much time in front of a screen reading, and I need large letters
4) RAM - going w/1GB from HP, then going to upgrade with another GB that I buy from pricewatch.com, unless someone recommends otherwise. 2GB seems to be an adequate amount for whatever I'd want to do.
Do my choices seem reasonable, or do I need to do some more research? Thanks!

Just increase the CPU a bit.

I think this is enough as an answer.
The thing that Core 2 brings is 64-bit support. -

hey, just a couple of thoughts.. you did not mention which Harddrive you will take.. so I'd recommend a 7200rpm any time, especially since you said u do some graphic/videoediting.. it's just more fun with a fast HDD
1) operating system: your choice, the differences between both are known, or can be read on microsoft.com
2) cpu: go with the cheap solution.. you won't notice much difference - ram and harddrive are the bottlenecks for your applications. It will be sufficient for the time being - and as soon as your warranty has run out, you just exchange the cpu with a faster one, if desired
3) graphics: definitely go with the 256mb Geforce 7400, especially if you run vista
4) ram: good choice there, definitely go with 2GB!
have fun with it -
