    HQ Sound Cards solution for a Laptop?

    Hey,
    I own dell Precision M6600 and I wanted to know If connecting HQ sound cards like Xonar was possible.
    There is little variety of sound cards with USB connection like Creative X-FI 5.1 which sounds awful.

    Do you mean the desktop cards, if yes you'd need some kind of converter to go from PCI/PCI-E to expresscard, USB or whatever. You should look at USB DACs instead, something like leckerton dacs or even the FiiOs which are decent for their price.

    Outside the USB portable sound cards, DACs probably are the best solution as far as quality goes. I'm guessing that since you want HQ sound, you have HQ files? USB DACs are glorified as sounding better than CDs. You won't do it justice with 128 Kbps audio files though. ;)

    If you've got professional soldering skills in theory you can change the audio chip on your laptop to more recent and probably better chip than the one you've got right now.

    Realtek HD > Creative when it comes to sound quality, Xonar better than both; Creative king of gaming till Vista came along.

    Aside from DACs there was 1 or 2 good sound cards for laptops, they are older ones and i don't remember the mode/names. Honestly good headphones go a long way too.

    M6600 has Expresscard, you can use Echo Indigo IOx/DJx, or RME HDSPe Expresscard + Multiface.
