ok. just been playing hells highway for a couple of hours.after exiting the game and checking temps, hwmonitor was showing core#0 77/core#1 206 (celsius). i have never had temps above low eighties before. is this even possible without cpu damage? or a false reading?

Thats got to be a false reading... you would melt the plastics of your computer at that temperature.

I would uninstall HWMoniter and either look for a different version or try running it again fresh.

Other than that... maybe get another program to "back up" its reading to see. And you can always use an independant heat sensor (like a heat probe) to register the actual temp... but man that is one smoking core.

If one of your cores was really 206 C, you would have more to worry about besides your computer! ;)

for reading cpu temperatures, try software like cpu rightmark, core temp, and everest.

Shouldn't you be running for your life before your PC blows up?

Try reinstaling HWMonitor, make sure you have the right version (32/64bit)

Another + for CoreTemp though if that doesnt work.

Yeah, if it was really that hot, you wouldnt know it. Because the laptop would be a liquid plastic/silicon melted puddle on the floor. ;)

I've had this happen to me, but the other way around and it was reading -106 C, but my PC sure wasn't freezing. It's just a misreading of the temperature sensor and defaulting to the highest integer.
