First Post!
Howdy all,
I saw this post answered on the forum and though this might be a good outlet to have my question answered:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...-buy-these-hard-drive-rail-bumper-thingy.html
Essentially what I am looking for is a comparable hard drive caddy/guide rail solution that Addonics has come up with for their 1.8-3.5 converter boxes:
Internal Micro SATA (mSATA) UDD from Addonics
Looking around I have found a caddy that may work for the 1.8" drive I am using:
1.8 SATA Hard drive caddy / bracket kit for HP Elitebook 2530p [HP-2530p-1.8] - $29.95 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks
but I'm not sure if there is a more extensive/more appropriate selection elsewhere.
Here is the drive I am using for reference:
SMART Modular Product Specifications Page
One of the requirements is it has to be stable and hold the drive in place to reasonable tolerances. What I'm worried is the above guide rail being too soft/flimsy to work right. If anyone has a part number on the Addonics box's guide rails that would be ideal but I think its a custom fab part. Any other help/tips/solutions would be greatly appreciated!

What machine do you have, what drive are you trying to mount, and where? Lots of nice links, but until you tell us some real specs, it's pretty much impossible to give you anything concrete.

Well I guess the best way to elaborate is it has to be a hot swappable drive with no specific machine/space requirement in mind (We are in the midst of product development). It has to be located where it can easily be mounted/removed by hand. I have already drawn up specs on a custom fabricated solution but I am REALLY trying to avoid this. Currently I am trying to mount the "SMART IOPS" 1.8" micro SATA Solid State Drive (Follow the last link for more specifics on the drive).

So you are trying to design a product with no requirements? Are you trying to slot a 1.8" drive into a generic 2.5" slot? An optical disk bay? Will it need to deal with both 9.5mm high and 12.5mm high bays?

From what I can tell this document;
ftp://ftp.seagate.com/pub/sff/SFF-8144.PDF
specifies a standard 1.8" micro-SATA drive to have a maximum height of 8mm (9.5mm bay I assume). This means it will only have to deal with that size. I have come across form-factor converters/Optical drive adapters and I am really looking for a guide rail solution as it is not to be mounted in a laptop but a portable data recorder (very similar application).
Relavent over-arching requirements:
1. Hot Swappable
2. 1.8" drive
3. guide rail
I have checked Molex for their Micro-SATA selection and contacted Addonics about their mechanical solution (Second link in original post) but they are not responding to my messages, which i interpret as not wanting to furnish the information. Pretty much I've hit a brick wall on this, sorry for having to embellish so much and I appreciate your time. -
Hrm. Not seeming much for what I'm guessing you're describing. Might wanna check with these guys? NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks
