I got a untested WD 250GB laptop SATA hard drive and plug into an
external enclosure to make an externa HD.
I then did a quick error scan using HD Tune 2.55. It passed. I then try a detailed scan and it just hangs there and I don't see much progress. Having
lack of success in a detailed scan, I then try to use WD utility for that specifc model for that HD.
It kept giving me "cable error" but the SMART function seems to be working. Now here are the questions. :)

Is HD Tune scan for mostly internal laptop test?

Is the quick error scan from HD Tune 2.55 and lack of SMART failure in WD
hard drive utility in this external hard dirve a sufficient indication that this hard drive is ok? Or should I change another external enclosure?

BTW, the hard drive manufacture date is Jan 2009. So it is
"under warranty". But I don't have receipt...Is that a problem?

    Thanks

I think it's fine. But what about that "cable error"?

this error occurs when i use the WD's data lifeguard diagnostics for proper model. i m not sure if this is due to external enclosure. any insight?
