I have a WD Scorpio Blue 500Gb HDD that is really messed up, I'm going to wait until after I clone it to pinpoint the problem but it has a SMART error and nearly crashed my Mac when I plug it in.

Anyways what are the warranties like on these things?
I bought this in Beijing, maby 4 months ago. China has no way to protect customers so I can't exactly go back to the seller and have him fix it. Is there a way to send it to the factory or whatever and get a replacement? or am I screwed?

Go on the WD web site and look up their replacement process. There should be a spot for you to type in the model/serial # of the drive which will come back with a warranty status and replacement options.

that's how I deal with my seagate and hitachi drives. As long as the drive is in the warranty period, no muss/no fuss.

You warranty may not apply to the geo area you live in, but since the web site is easy to try, why not start there?

it should be 2-5 years...and go to the support site and call up WD... they'll send u a replacement...my hard drive adapter broke and they gave me 1 in about 6 weeks... not sure but for u must be faster as mine got all jumbled up in the crappy european post system.

Yeah I'm still in warranty, Does anyone know if the warranties are generally 1 year, or two? My drive was made April 9, 2009 so..

I can't send it in because I need to grab some data off of it and I can't buy an external for another few weeks until I get more cash so I have to wait for now.

You will need to go to the link provided and fill in the information to find that information out. It could be as little as 1 year or as much as 5 depending on a lot of different factors. If it came installing in the laptop if might only be covered through the laptop manufacturer. That is why you need to go through that link to find out for sure if it is still covered and for how long.

Aslong as you didn't buy a refurbished or a western digital that was used the standard warranty for a western digital blue is 3 years
