I have an HP Pavilion Ze5470us laptop that is a bit over 4 years old. Last week when I turned it on it took forever for XP to load, so I just turned off the laptop. Turned it on and it came up with the options: safe mode, last know good configuration, normal, etc, etc... I selected normal, then nothing happened. After a few minutes I comes up with No Operating System found.

I have went into the System Setup/Bios to do a hard drive test but it does not show the Hard Drive present.

So I am not sure if the HDD just died on me mysteriously or the BIOS got corrupted.

    Any advice is appreciated.

It sounds like your BIOS is at least working to some extent. Try booting the GParted LiveCD and see if you can see the HD from there?

At that age, it is probable that the drive failed.

    Try to reset the bios...
go into bios and "load setup defaults"etc.
This might start a new ide search in the post!
