I recently cleaned my Hard drive, and deleted a bunch of stuff (getting ready to buy GTA 4).

I had 34.5GB free 2 days ago, and I checked today, and was down to 29GB's. And I notice with Rainmeter, that something is always using my Hard drive (the graph goes up and down).

I checked with my Tuneup Utilities and found that my Recovery files are using most of the GB's (when I cleaned it, I got back 5GB's).

Is this normal for the Recovery Files to keep using my HD space?

If it's normal, I don't mind it, but does it stop using my HD space at any point?

Or is it not normal at all?

    Thanks guys.

    xTank_Jones16x:

If your laptop was purchased during or after about the first quarter of 2007 or last quarter of 2006, it's likely your syste has a built in "Recovery Partition". These portions of the disk take up about 5 GB (depending on the make/model).

Unless you mean the System Restore files. These are a sort of a "snapshot" of your system (registry, drivers, some other critical files), and depending on your settings, can indeed take up quite a bit of space. You can set the ammount of disk space this function uses by

XP: Right click "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "System Restore" tab, and drag the slider to the ammount of disk space you would like to use.

Vista: Vista makes it a little bit harder to set the size, which is generally defaulted to 15% of your hard drive space. In any case, if you want to brave the feat, you can find comprehensive directions at:

    www (dot) vista4beginners (dot) com/System-Restore-Space-Used
(sorry I can't yet make it a link)

    Hope this answered your question!

You may want to use the search tool and look up how to control the Vista Swap space.
Vista continually caches itself so in many cases overtime, 20 or more Gb of your harddrive can be conusmed by Vista itself.

You can also do what Meatball mentioned.
And you can run disccleanup, to free up more harddrive space.
I bet after you did all of the options you would have a lot more disc space.
