Am looking to buy a Hitachi 7K100 hard drive to put into my laptop. The specifications are the same, but in real world use would a 100GB 7K100 be faster than a 60GB 7K100 or the reverse? I am not sure yet if I will be using all the extra space, but just as a basic rule does storage space affect practical speed?
Thanks!

It does but nothing that one would actually be able to tell.
There has been tests that a 100gb 5400 almost compares to a 60gb 7200 in terms of speed -
Agreeing with coriolis on this one...
No difference that a human could tell

yes in theroy this would be the case, since the data is more densly packed in a larger cap. drive then it would have to be acessed faster at any rpm purely because of the density

Both 60GB and 100GB use 2 platter design, but 60GB comes with 3 heads( 3 sides, so 40GB per platter) and 100GB comes with 4 head(so 50GB per platter).
Access latency does not change because it still uses the same slider, but bandwidth increases because of little more density(probably by factor of 15-25%).
So, im my opinion it may not make substantial difference.( it does make some).
Hard Drive: Larger = Faster?
