When you say "hard drive dock", are you referring to the Thermaltake BlacX hard drive docking station or the Vantec hard drive dock? If so, they only accept 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drives, so if your Seagate drive is not a SATA drive, you're out of luck. Can go with just an external drive enclosure as well.

With that hard drive, a hard drive dock will work fine. I have the Thermaltake BlacX hard drive docking station station (USB 2.0/eSATA version) and find it to be very convenient for swapping out SATA hard drives for quick access.

If you want faster transfer speeds, the Vantec hard drive dock comes with an eSATA bracket which you can connect to an internal SATA connector on a desktop motherboard (the Thermaltake does not) so that you can make use of eSATA.
