If I want to really erase a hard drive all I'd need is DBAN right? What could I do to confirm the data is really gone?

Download a file recovery program that gets paid to recover files,,this will show if any are left,,most show what they have found before the money is required..

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I mean ya, DBAN = gg no data left. You can then plug in the drive into another computer and verify everything has been erased...just running the 7 pass wipe is enough.

If your data is that valuable, shred the drive. If you don't have a shredder, DBAN it, grab a torx driver and dismantle the drive, then go at the platter with a drill/drill press. And never throw out that destroyed platter. Hard drives are REALLY cheap these days.
