i need to replace a hard drive for my XPS M1710 and was looking through newegg for cheap replacement and i've settled on two hard drives i've linked.

anyone can tell me the difference between the ATA-6 and SATA? which one is better for my M1710? the computer will be used for school work and mild gaming. thanks!

Well....it really depends upon which HDD you laptop supports....IDE or SATA..!!
Download PC Wizard 2008 and check in drives > storage controller, which type of hdd u have.... -

I'm 99% sure that the XPS M1710 takes a SATA HDD.

The XPSM1710 was only available with the serial ata interface.
I have a slightly used 160gb 5400rpm hitachi sata drive from my lenovo T61. It has less than 100 hrs of use on it. I will let it go for $60 shipped if you want it.
