Hello and thank you for reading this. I have searched but not find my answers so here now I ask for user advice.

I have a LifeBook N6410 and like it very much. So much in fact I have just purchased a new N6460.

What I want to do is take the hard drive from my N6410 and put it in my N6460 so that I may have all my programs and Windows XP.

Then I take the hard drive that come with N6460 and install into N6410 and give N6410 to my super hot wife. Please advise if this is possible.

My reason for wanting to swap is I do not like Windows Vista, and I have things setup quite nicely on my laptop and do not want to change, only want more power.

Thank you in advance for any contributions made.

    Kevin

They both have sata HD's so you should be able to exchange them. But the notebooks have different chipsets and hardware configs, so I can see you having many device conflicts. I don't think it would be a plug and play deal, but it may work after updating the device drivers. I'm not sure about the chipsets, though.

Also the bios, may be a problem too

Love the Lifebooks! :D I've had a N3010, N5010 & N6010. Still believe the N6010 is the best lappy I've had to date! Hands down the best display ever!

I have done this in the past. But, that was with a Win98 and a Win2K machine. I don't know how this will work with XP or Vista and the activation.

One thing to make it easier, is to put copies of the drivers for the other machine on the drives before swapping them.

ok this project was fun. I have successfully swapped hard drives. To do it I used the recovery tool to delete data from the hard disks then format and create partitions. Then ran recovery tool. Then swapped drives before starting windows for first time. After all that though i decided to take the vista plunge. I am not very happy with it but I guess I will get used to it. Now both my N6460 and N6410 run Vista. My wifes side of the workstion is a mirror image of mine, peripherals and all.
