Recently, I purchased a WD Scorpio 160GB internal 2.5 EIDE hard drive for my Dell Inspiron 5100 notebook. I purchased it through the Dell Web site, and it said that it was compatible with the 5100.

The way the hard drive bay that came with the 5100 is built, it won't allow the WD's pins to reach the hard drive port. I suspect there's a half or quarter inch of distance.

So what's the best way to hook it up the drive? Is there a hard drive bay I can buy or some sort of adapter and interface?

WD's and Dell's Web sites aren't very helpful.

    Thanks in advance.

On the drive you took out, there is prolly some sort of adapter thingee.

Take it off the drive you removed, and put it on the drive you are installing.

It would be helpful if you could post the pics of the 2 HDDs...

My Dell 5150 had the adapter extension thingee, so, his 5100 very well might as well.
