Basically.. ive searched all day trying to find a drive that has the following:
- 1,5 TB +
- an eSATA connection
- 7200 RPM speed
Couldn't fine one as cheap as the Samsung Story Station PLUS 2 TB (eSATA & USB 2.0).
Ive found it as cheap as € 95 shipped.
It has a 32MB buffer BUT.. 5400 RPM...
Dealbreaker?

What will you be using the drive for? If you're not installing software to it, 5400RPM is plenty for a storage drive IMHO.
-
You can always make your own external drive. Here is the recipe:
1 part 2TB 7200rpm 3.5" drive
1 part 3.5" enclosure with eSATA
Mix both and enjoy! -
I concur. 5400RPM great for storage, is more than adequate.
-
Mainly storage yes, I just ordered it.
Really cheap deal, kinda suprised.
I hope the eSATA cable is enclosed.. otherwise im kinda lost which one to order lol.Gotta thank the community for pointing out the advantages of eSATA btw, am really curious, cheers.
ps - Trottel, good advice, will look into that in the future -

with a 7200rpm drive esata is nice, for 5400 usb2.0 is fine.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
It doesn't matter about RPM, it's all about read/write speed.

A faster RPM lets it read/write faster
They kind of go hand in hand. -
FWIW, I have the USB2 version of that drive and it's rather nicely made. I'm very happy with it.
It's supposed to be a good performer for a 5400rpm drive, but I can't really tell using USB2. -
Do you have stuff installed on it? Or do you use it mainly to store movies and pictures? -
I use it most days; it's very quiet and stays cool. I've had it a few months.
I use it as a data drive with a couple of big Truecrypt containers. I have done a bit of video editing of files stored on it, but nothing installed on it.
Obviously the USB2 interface limits the transfer speed, but anytime I want to transfer a lot of stuff I just leave it and come back when it's finished.
Hope this helps. -
it does! thanks a bunch
