I've got a Seagate ST910022A that came with my acer 1694 laptop, I've also got a 5400 RPM Seagate ST910023A drive. The 5400 RPM drive is no faster then the 4200 RPM, DMA is on and everything is configured right. So what gives?

use HDTUNE ( www.hdtune.com) for benchmarking ... you should find a significant difference, I would say 10% at least.

Yeah, the 5400 rpm should be alot faster, but in most cases, you won't notice it b/c the extra speed only shaves off a few seconds (doesn't make loading up applications instantneous or anything).

I used HDtune in the first place. The drive is a lot faster in the max speed area almost 13 mb/s faster. It's 6 MB/s faster in the ave, it's the same for everything else. Next I'll write the numbers down, then compare drives.

    Thanks.

Pretty soon we should see the Hitachi 7K100 and 7K80 series in more notebooks. They're supposed to offer low end desktop 7200 rpm performance, a first for notebooks.
