I've got a Seagate ST910022A that came with my acer 1694 laptop, I've also got a 5400 RPM Seagate ST910023A drive. The 5400 RPM drive is no faster then the 4200 RPM, DMA is on and everything is configured right. So what gives?![]()

what do you mean by " (no) faster" ? how are you measuring?
-
use HDTUNE ( www.hdtune.com) for benchmarking ... you should find a significant difference, I would say 10% at least.
-
Yeah, the 5400 rpm should be alot faster, but in most cases, you won't notice it b/c the extra speed only shaves off a few seconds (doesn't make loading up applications instantneous or anything).

I used HDtune in the first place. The drive is a lot faster in the max speed area almost 13 mb/s faster. It's 6 MB/s faster in the ave, it's the same for everything else. Next I'll write the numbers down, then compare drives.
Thanks. -

Pretty soon we should see the Hitachi 7K100 and 7K80 series in more notebooks. They're supposed to offer low end desktop 7200 rpm performance, a first for notebooks.
Hard upgrade 4200 RPM to 5400 RPM
