I have HP Pavilion DV6670ee laptop. It came with 160GB SATA 1.5 Gb/s Harddisk. Link to the said hard disk is http://westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=264

I would like to get a 320GB hard disk. I can get a Samsung 320GB one easily and there is also option of 320GB Western Digital.

First of all, will 320 gb work on this laptop? and second what I am confused between the two is that Samsung is offering 1.5 Gb/s hard disk. The hard disk which came with my laptop is also 1.5 Gb/s SATA while WD 320GB is 3.0 Gb/s

What should I get? How do I know my laptop supports 3.0 Gb/s ? I would like to save some money and time (because Samsung is easily available; WD is not will have to wait for it) if my laptop does not support 3.0 Gb/s or if the said difference won't make much of a performance difference.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks!

Your notebook does support SATA 3.0Gb/s or SATA2.

The Samsung HM320JI and the WD3200BEVT (?), both are good drives. Though both will perform roughly the same, the WD will have a higher power consumption. Hitachi 5K320 is an option.

You can also checkout the current 320GB 7200RPM HDDs, such as the WD Scorpio Black, Seagate 7200.3, Hitachi 7K320, etc....or the new 500GB 5400RPMs.

SATA 1.5Gb/s or 3.0Gb/s doesn't matter. It will not affect performance, and just FYI, SATA 3.0Gb/s is backwards compatible with SATA 1.5Gb/s.

    :)

Andy's right, your laptop can support both 1.5Gb/s and 3.0Gb/s. I've upgraded my laptop to the WD Scorpio Black, and I love it.

    Thanks for replies fellas :D

I will go with the one easily available then which happens to be 1.5 Gb/s , I don't care about 3.0 Gb/s if it does not cause a boost in performance.
